San Francisco, California--hardly more than a wasteland these days. This once vibrant city was unrecognizable after being crushed by the second wave of radiation. Clear Sight was still trying to rebuild, but with so many monsters roaming about it was quite difficult. Even so, Clear Sight was a proud company, and wasn't about to hand over California to the beasts. R.A.C.E. was all over the place trying to clean things up, but the fact of the matter was they were outgunned and outnumbered; that's where Augustine came into play. Of course, he wasn't going by that name here. Oh no, he wouldn't dare step foot into Clear Sight territory with his real identity, or even his actual accent. For the course of this job he was Jake Farmer, an ex-military southern boy from Louisiana. Now, you must be wondering, just what is this job? Well, seems that R.A.C.E. is having some trouble keeping their food supply safe from the locals, including the monsters. So, they hired some outside help, on account of the fact that they're short staffed, to protect the small warehouse where they store their goods.
It had been two nights since Jake started this gig, and he had yet to see any action. He was starting to think that maybe Clear Sight had gotten wise to his false identities and managed to track him down. Perhaps now they were just waiting for the right moment to take him out... Then, quite suddenly, he heard something that sounded like tearing metal. He rounded a corner and there he saw a terrible creature with a wolf-like maw, wings like a falcon, and the body and legs of a jackrabbit. This thing was trying to bite its way through the warehouse to get inside and eat up the content. However, when it saw Jake it seemed to think he might make a better meal.
"Ya don' wanna do dat, bunny." He said as he gripped the handles of a couple of his throwing knives he had strapped to his thighs. The creature snarled and growled, and then let out some sort of bark or roar, honestly Farmer couldn't tell what it was supposed to be--but he knew what it meant.
The mutant rabbit jumped with great strength, its mouth open wide and aimed for Jake's face. With inhuman speed the knives flew from the guard's hands and into the stomach and throat of the creature. Then, just as the beast was in range, Jake unleashed a vicious Muay Thai roundhouse, sending the monster soaring into a nearby tree trunk. The dead tree cracked along with some of the creature's bones. The rabbit twitched several times before pulling its eyelids halfway over its red eyes as it breathed its final breath.
"Y'shoulda listened, bunny..." He said somberly as he approached the creature. "Maybe you'd've lived t'find an easier meal." He said, mostly to himself as he pulled his weapons out of the mutated animal. "Huh?" Just then, Kathan's superhuman ears picked up on something not far from him. He wasn't sure what it was exactly, but he could tell it was trying to be sneaky by the weight of the steps it was taking.
~Two nights wit' no activity, an' now dis.~ He thought to himself as he carefully went to check it out.
