In the year 2000 A.D. the global economy collapsed, leaving most companies, and even entire countries utterly broke. However, over the course of a decade 5 companies rose to power, monopolizing all markets, trade, and eventually even the government. Clear Sight, a corporation specializing in media technology and weapons development, seized control of North America and Australia while the pharmaceutical company known as H.E.A.L.L. took over Europe, and the vehicle and practical technology company Saikou took control of Asia. South America became the fashion capital of the world thanks to the clothing super company, Rarity International, and Africa was taken over by CalliopE Communications. By 2009 the entire world was under their command, and with no government to hinder them, each company branched out into many fields, including genetic augmentation on humans. The Powers, as the 5 super companies are known, had their hands in everything from food and beverage distribution to medicine and mobile phones.
May 27, 2011 A.D., a Saikou mole in the Clear Sight company was close to discovering their secret to increasing the physical abilities of a human tenfold. However, before he could find that final secret ingredient in the “Meta Soldier Elixir” he was caught and killed. The next day spies were sent into the other four companies to find out who had sent the mole. When it was revealed that Saikou had sent the mole one of the higher ups in Clear Sight made an executive decision to counter attack. A hit was made on one of their Vice Presidents, but the hitman got himself caught by security.
July 1, 2011 A.D., Saikou sends assassins to terminate 3 members of Clear Sight’s board of trustees. Clear Sight anticipated the attack, and managed to defend with no casualties on their end. But, not long after, Saikou let it leak that Clear Sight had found the missing ingredient in making superhumans.
August 26, 2011 A.D., an unseen war broke out between The Powers, first using common mercenaries, but it didn’t take long for them to start using the hired muscle to make prototype superhumans. Clear Sight had genetically enhanced soldiers with incredible strength, speed, agility, durability, and even some senses were heightened. Saikou focused more on gene splicing—merging human DNA with animals. H.E.A.L.L. took a slightly different route, splicing human DNA with plants and et cetera, giving their soldiers power over some of the elements. CalliopE Communications used implants to increase the power of the mind, the senses, and a modified version of Clear Sight’s serum to increase physical abilities. Rarity International supposedly stole secrets from Saikou and H.E.A.L.L. to make their own blend of meta soldiers, but this was never confirmed. However, it wasn’t long before the other companies started stealing each others formulas.
December 7, 2011 A.D., secrets and serums were stolen every which way until every company had at least a dozen versions of each other’s meta soldiers in their special groups of assassins. The war was about to come to a head, and Clear Sight was sure it had a winning plan…just destroy the source of every other company’s superhumans. However, the other Four had the same idea.
January 1, 2012 A.D., fights between meta soldiers erupted inside the facilities used to create the various serums and elixirs. The facilities were disguised as nuclear power plants, which was fitting because they were just as dangerous.
Sparks flew, containers broke, and then…the explosions. The 12 facilities sent out enormous waves of radiation killing millions upon millions, and mutating even more. Entire cities were erased in a matter of seconds, and then others were virtually untouched. Those caught in the explosion itself were killed instantly, and those in the first wave just outside of it were either killed or turned into hideous monsters. People in the second wave were given remarkable powers, and some external mutations, and fewer were still transformed into beasts. The third layer produced weaker superhumans and some people were seemingly unaffected. The final wave had nearly no effect on people, but still made food and water unsafe to consume, but in just a few years those in the last wave would discover that the mutagens would only manifest in their offspring, making them about as powerful as those caught in the third or second wave.
Chaos broke out all over the world. Plants, animals, minerals and people had all been mutated. Everything and everyone was in a panic. People were maiming and killing each other all over the place, sometimes just by accident. After a few days the people demanded an answer from the CEOs, but they had no answer. Another week went by and the companies began pointing their fingers at each other and were about ready to wage war. However, with so much madness they hadn’t the troops, money, or all around means to do so. Thus, a ceasefire was called so each company could begin rebuilding.
February 15, 2012 A.D., Clear Sight drafted superhumans, trained them, gave them uniforms and orders, and the name R.A.C.E., which stood for Radiation Aftermath Cleansing & Enforcement. This army of meta soldiers marched out to bring some order back to the continents ruled by Clear Sight, while Saikou did likewise with their new private army called Jìnghuà meaning purity or purifying. Not having the proper means themselves, Rarity, H.E.A.L.L. and CalliopE requested aid from R.A.C.E. & Jìnghuà.
January 5, 2015 (3 A.B.), alliances were made. Rarity International & Clear Sight entered into an official alliance, and CalliopE and H.E.A.L.L. entered into an alliance with Saikou. Now the five companies can finally begin to restore order to the world with the power of Jìnghuà and R.A.C.E. at their disposal. However, in the last few years groups of superhuman criminals have sprouted up, animals have become mad monsters, and even some of the plants have become dangers to society. Needless to say, their task is not an easy one.
March 6, 2015 (3 A.B.), natural food and water has been ruled too dangerous to consume or even grow, and therefore all food and beverage must be manufactured by the companies. The foods come in various forms, the most common being chips, bread-like substances, and gummies. They are numbered based on their nutritional value—the higher the number the better it is for you. CS 1 (or H1, Sai1, RI 1, or CC 1 depending on the manufacturer) is basically junk food, whereas CS 7 (the highest grade) is a well-balanced meal that can provide you with plenty of energy. However, H7 (or CS 7) is extremely expensive, and can usually only be afforded by company higher ups.
April 9, 2016 (4 A. B.), many people now live in traveling communities while others find it easier to plant themselves in one easy-to-defend area and appoint Leaders and Protectors. R.A.C.E. & Jìnghuà continue their struggle to protect the innocent, all the while secretly abducting superhumans the companies find interesting and slaying those who were turned into monsters.
January 1, 2030 (17 A. B.), seventeen years have gone by since what the children and youth refer to as “the boom”. Many communities are now trying to separate themselves from the companies, others are looking for a slice of paradise unaffected by the radiation, and other groups are just looking for answers to their gnawing questions… “Why did The Boom happen?” “What caused it?”. Rebels known as The Underground demand the truth, and freedom. Criminals demand power. The Powers, R.A.C.E., and Jìnghuà demand order. But some demand nothing, and are just trying to survive…trying to live as they did before The Boom.
